much ado about nothing
Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan reimagines Much Ado About Nothing as a high-seas adventure set on the pirate island of Messina. Captain Don Pedro and his swashbuckling crew arrive at port, and amid the chaos, the young soldier Claudio falls for Hero, the leader's daughter. The sharpest story thread is the sparring match between Benedick and Beatrice, two witty adversaries whose insults cut as deep as any cutlass. But Don Pedro's villainous brother Don Jon schemes to wreck it all with lies and betrayal, threatening to sink the romance before it can set sail.
The production runs three hours with an intermission and includes flashing lights, sudden loud noises, theatrical haze, and staged combat. Content advisories for mature themes and relationships are available on the venue website.
