cinema at the museum: the hustler (1961) & the colour of money (1986)
Remai Modern screens two classic pool films back-to-back in one evening. The Hustler (1961) follows Fast Eddie Felson, a talented but reckless pool player who challenges the legendary Minnesota Fats to a high-stakes match. Twenty-five years later, Martin Scorsese's The Color of Money reunites the character as an older Eddie who mentors a promising but headstrong young player named Vincent Lauria, teaching him the art of the hustle as they tour pool halls together.
Both films explore themes of ambition, ego, and perseverance through the lens of sport. You pay for one admission and see both screenings, which run about four hours in total. Members get in free, and anyone under 18 also enters free. The first film is rated for audiences 13 and up; the second is 14 and up.
