Satyajit Ray's landmark 1955 film follows an impoverished Bengali family as they navigate daily hardship and small moments of joy. The priest Harihar leaves his village seeking work, leaving his wife Sarbojaya to care for their rebellious daughter Durga, young son Apu, and his elderly aunt Indir. The film is presented in Bengali with English subtitles and runs two hours and five minutes. This screening is part of Cinema at the Museum's September series exploring international filmmakers and themes of resilience, moral complexity, and human connection.
