cinema at the museum: hoop dreams
Remai Modern screens Hoop Dreams, Steve James's acclaimed 1994 documentary that follows two African-American teenagers, William Gates and Arthur Agee, as they travel 90 minutes each day from inner-city Chicago to a suburban high school with a top basketball program. Over five years of filming, the movie traces their pursuit of NBA stardom and the social and physical obstacles their families help them navigate. The 171-minute film is part of July's Cinema at the Museum series, which uses sports storytelling to explore themes of perseverance, ambition, trauma, and ego. Tickets are ten dollars; members and youth under 18 are free.
